President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (08/16) is slated to deliver two addresses before the parliament at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Jakarta.
First, the President will deliver state of the nation address at the 2023 Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) that is set to start at around 09.30 Western Indonesian time.
Before the President delivers his address, the Speaker of the MPR Bambang Soesatyo will open the 2023 Annual Session of the MPR and the Joint Session of the DPR and DPD, followed by the Head of the DPD La Nyala Mattalitti delivering introductory remarks at the Joint Session of the DPR and DPD.
In the state of the nation address, the President will report the performance of state institutions and give remarks on the 78th anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence Day.
Furthermore, President Jokowi will deliver an address on the presentation of the Government statement on the Bill on the State Budget for the 2024 fiscal year and its financial note before the Plenary Session the DPR, which is scheduled to begin at 13.30 Western Indonesian time and be opened by Speaker of the DPR Puan Maharani.
According to the Speaker of the MPR, the 2023 Annual Session of the MPR and the Joint Session of the DPR and DPD are going to be attended by approximately 1,549 guests.
“The invited guests who are attending include the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, former presidents of the Republic of Indonesia and former vice presidents of the Republic of Indonesia, former speakers of the MPR/DPR/DPD of the Republic of Indonesia, heads of state institutions, all members of the MPR, ministers of the Indonesia Onward Cabinet, government officials at the same level as ministerial positions, chairpersons of political parties represented at the DPR, kings of regions within Indonesia, chairpersons of religious community organizations, and representatives of exemplary figures across the country,” he said.
For the record, President Jokowi usually wears traditional attires of various ethnic groups across Indonesia at state events. For this year’s parliamentary session, the President is wearing the traditional attire of Tanimbar from Maluku province. (UN) (DH/LW)
