In a trilateral meeting with Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea James Marape and Prime Minister of Fiji Sitiveni Rabuka, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo underscored that Indonesia would continue to be committed to making the Pacific region peaceful, stable, and prosperous.
“I’d like to reiterate that Indonesia is strongly committed to making the Pacific region a peaceful, stable, and prosperous region,” the President said at Moscone North, San Francisco, the United States, Thursday (11/16).
President Jokowi also stated that the meeting between the three countries reflects the close brotherhood among fellow Pacific countries.
On that occasion, President Jokowi also expressed appreciation to the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) and the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) for respecting Indonesia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in several meetings.
“I also follow closely the implementation of the MSG Summit and the PIF Summit and I appreciate the position of the MSG and PIF in respecting Indonesia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said.
The President also said that Indonesia will continue to be committed to strengthening relations between Indonesia and the MSG and PIF through a number of tangible collaborations.
“This commitment has been demonstrated by Indonesia on various occasions, including inviting the PIF at the G20 Summit and the ASEAN Summit,” he said.
“Indonesia has successfully encouraged cooperation between the ASEAN Secretariat and the PIF,” he added.
President Jokowi also expressed Indonesia’s hope to become a partner in the development of the MSG and PIF and said he was also pleased to see a number of developments in the construction of public facilities in Fiji and Papua New Guinea. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/UN) (FI/EP)
